Vote Andrew McCullough For Utah Attorney General
Andy's Reply To The Editor Of The Salt Lake Tribune
Editor: This is in reply to the article in your paper on March 23 regarding the colorful "fringe" candidates running in this election. My candidacy for Attorney General as a Libertarian was mentioned along with such notables as Cody Judy, who spent time in prison for assaulting the President of the LDS Church Quorum of the Twelve.
I don't deny that my candidacy brings color to the race for Attorney General. I admit that I am not likely to win the office, but that doesn't equate with the [lunatic?] fringe. I have practised law in Utah, specializing in the First and Fourth Amendments to the Constitution, for 30 years. I am thus well qualified for the position. My stands on the issues are well thought out, and even reasonable. What sets me apart from my opponents is that I am free to say what I feel needs to be said, and not what my pollsters tell me I ought to say.
I ran for Attorney General four years ago and was included in a series of debates where "minor party" candidates had previously been excluded. Your paper welcomed me to the debates in an editorial expressing the hope that other "minor" candidates would be included in the future. I was the only candidate to endorse Initiative B, passed by 69% of Utah voters and designed to curb so-called civil forfeitures. Mr. Shurtleff has since worked hard to dismantle as much of that effort as possible. This year I may be the only candidate who will work for repeal of the Patriot Act, another government effort to restrict our Constitutional rights.
I think that, if people are able to hear my message, I may actually have a chance to win. Maybe those who would compromise our freedom for a little supposed safety might turn out to be the "fringe" candidates.
W. Andrew McCullough
Attorney at Law (Bar No. 2170)
6885 South state St. suite 200
Midvale, UT 84047
